CITY OF MALOLOS –– Bulacan will use the newly built extension building of the Bulacan Medical Center (BMC) as it’s central quarantine facility to isolate those infected with the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), Gov. Daniel Fernando said on Wednesday in a radio program.
The three-floor structure, spanning 5,800 square meters, can accommodate 250 patients. It is located at the back of the Bulacan Provincial Capitol Building.
Fernando said self-quarantine at home for persons under investigation (PUI) for the virus and persons under monitoring (PUMs) also endanger the health of their respective families, so they need to be isolated at special quarantine areas.
Self-quarantine may have contributed to the rise of cases, instead of reducing these numbers, the governor said.
Fernando initially eyed the Bulacan Sports Complex grounds in Barangay Sta. Isabel as the central quarantine area, but it would need the provincial government to set up tents.
The complex is also near the Marcelo H. Del Pilar National High School, the largest public secondary school in Central Luzon and several other schools.
As of Wednesday (Apr. 1), Bulacan recorded 28 COVID-19 patients, 12 of whom had died. The province has 336 PUIs after clearing 111 PUIs, and 2,187 PUMs.
