DOH Bicol condemns ‘unkind acts’ against COVID-19 patients

GUINOBATAN, Albay –– The Department of Health in Bicol condemned on Wednesday unkind acts against coronavirus disease (COVID-19) patients after their identities were disclosed online.

In a statement published on social media, DOH Bicol director Ernie Vera, said some patients have been receiving racist comments and threats to their lives.

“Our office condemns these unkind acts,” Vera said.

PH766, a 52-year-old foreigner, was one of the confirmed cases in Albay province.

The patient was erroneously reported by some that he had escaped from the hospital where he was confined.

The DOH later revealed that he was sent home a day after he was confined at the Bicol Regional Teaching and Training Hospital, ten days before he was confirmed positive of COVID-19.

The house of another COVID-19 patient, PH1320, was reportedly stoned after it was confirmed that she was positive of the virus. PH1320 was a 60-year-old woman.

All seven Bicol COVID-19 patients were in stable condition, according to Vera.
