MANILA, Philippines — The Mobile Palengke, a market-on-wheels project that started in Pasig City, was launched in Mandaluyong City to allow citizens to buy basic goods near their homes.
Mandaluyong City Mayor Menchie Abalos posted the announcement on Facebook, saying the mobile markets will also lessen crowds in wet markets and other public establishments.
“Lingkod Bayang handog ng ating Pamahalaang Lungsod upang maiwasan ang pag dagsa ng ating mga mamamayan sa mga Pamilihang Bayan,” Abalos wrote on Wednesday.
(Our local government will offer mobile markets to avoid people crowding in local markets.)
Abalos also said the initiative will allow the public to stay in their homes and contain the spread of the coronavirus disease.
Abalos said they will soon post the schedule and routes of the market on wheels.
As of March 31, there are 60 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Mandaluyong City. Of which, six died due to the ailment while two have recovered.
The local government also recorded 383 persons under monitoring and 169 persons under investigation for possible infection of the coronavirus disease.
