COVID-19 cases in Philippines rise to 1,418

MANILA, Philippines — The number of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases in the Philippines rose to 1,418, the Department of Health (DOH) announced Sunday.

Of the said number, 71 have died with 42 successfully recovering from the disease, DOH Usec. Maria Rosario Vergeire said in a press briefing.

Previously, the DOH recorded 1,075 patients with COVID-19, of which 68 have died while 35 have recovered.

The DOH said among those who recovered are patient 122, a 41-year-old Filipino male from Tarlac with no travel history and patient 114 who is a 35-year-old Filipino male from Caloocan City who had a history of travel to Japan.

Also recovered from COVID-19 is patient 109, a 44-year-old Filipino male from Pasig City, with no travel history; and a 33-year-old Filipino male from San Juan City who was tagged as patient 88.

Also recovered from COVID-19 are a 32-year-old Filipino female from Makati City, who was known as patient 204, and a 35-year-old Filipino male from Quezon City who was known as patient 358.

A 13-year-old Filipino female from Quezon City, known as patient 135 and a relative of a COVID-19 case, also recovered from the coronavirus disease.

COVID-19 is a respiratory disease caused by a coronavirus.

The International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses later identified new coronavirus as SARS-CoV-2.

The disease originated from Wuhan City in China in 2019.
