Ilocos Sur records first confirmed COVID-19 case

VIGAN CITY, Philippines  –– A 55-year-old woman from Tagudin town is the first patient in Ilocos Sur to test positive for the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) Ilocos Sur, Gov. Ryan Singson announced in a Saturday (Mar. 28) briefing.

Singson has ordered a lockdown of barangay (village) Magsaysay where the patient resides, while epidemiologists locate people who may have had contact with her.

The patient was first rushed to the Ilocos Sur District Hospital-Tagudin on March 21 when she fell unconscious.

She asked to be moved to the Bethany Hospital in San Fernando City in La Union.

Singson said the patient had been coughing, had colds and intermittent fever since March 18. Her son, who showed flu symptoms when he flew back from the United States on Mar. 8, may have been the source of transmission.

Based on the province’s COVID-19 tracker as of 10 a.m. Sunday, the province has nine patients under investigation (PUI) and 9, 227 persons under monitoring (PUM).
