DOH: Latest deaths from COVID-19 are 14 senior citizens
MANILA, Philippines — Fourteen Filipino senior citizens were the latest fatalities from the coronavirus disease 2019 or COVID-19, the Department of Health (DOH) reported Saturday.
In a case bulletin, DOH said that among those who died was patient number 382 or “PH382”, a 63-year-old Filipino female from Quezon City who died on March 18 due to pneumonia. She was also diagnosed with hypertension, diabetes mellitus, and chronic kidney disease.
Another fatality was “PH648”, a 71-year-old Filipino male with unknown travel history. He died on March 25 due to “Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome, Septic Shock, Community-acquired Pneumonia High Risk, COVID 19, Upper Gastrointestinal Bleeding secondary to stress gastritis and Acute Kidney Injury secondary to Sepsis.”
“PH391” was an 80-year-old Filipino female and resident of the city of Manila. She passed away on March 19 due to pneumonia and COVID-19.
“PH522” was a 61-year-old Filipino female from Pasig City, who expired on March 26. DOH said she died due to “cardiopulmonary arrest secondary to bradycardic-pulseless electrical activity secondary to severe metabolic respiratory acidosis secondary to Acute Kidney Injury, Septic Shock and Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome.”
“PH 730” was an 86-year-old Filipino male and resident of Quezon City. He died on March 25 due to “Cardiac arrhythmia secondary to Community-acquired pneumonia High Risk secondary to COVID-19.”
“PH676”, on the other hand, was a 64-year-old Filipino male from San Juan City who died on March 24 and tested positive for the disease a day later, according to DOH. The man died due to “Cardiopulmonary Arrest, Acute Heart Failure, Community-acquired Pneumonia High Risk and COVID-19.”
“PH677” was a 60-year-old Filipino male from Caloocan City. He died on March 23 and tested positive for COVID-19 about two days later. His cause of death aside from COVID-19 was acute heart failure and pneumonia.
“PH393” was a 74-year-old Filipino female from Quezon City who died on March 21 and tested positive for COVID-19 on March 22. He died due to “Septic Shock secondary to Community-acquired Pneumonia High Risk, Complete Heart Block”, and COVID-19.
“PH 729” was a 67-year-old Filipino male from Quezon City. He died on March 19 and tested positive for COVID-19 on March 25. His cause of death “Community-acquired Pneumonia High Risk secondary to Congestive Heart Failure.”
Meanwhile, 82-year-old “PH731” was a Filipino male from Quezon City who died on March 20 and tested positive for COVID-19 on March 25. His demise was due to “Acute Myocardial Infarction Secondary to Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome secondary to Community-acquired Pneumonia High Risk.”
“PH604” was a 60-year-old Filipino male from Quezon City. He died on March 26 and tested positive for COVID-19 on March 24. His death was due to “Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome secondary to Community-acquired Pneumonia High RIsk secondary to COVID-19.”
“PH 277” was a 72-year-old Filipino female from Bulacan who died on March 19 and tested positive for the disease on March 20. According to DOH, she died because of “Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome secondary to Community-acquired Pneumonia High Risk, Severe Acute Respiratory Infection and Septic Shock secondary to Pneumonia.”
“PH635” was an 80-year-old Filipino female from Parañaque City. She died on March 22 and tested positive for the disease on March 24. The cause of her death was “Severe Acute Respiratory Distress secondary to Severe Pneumonia.”
Lastly, “PH581” is a 79-year-old Filipino-American female from Taguig City. She died on March 21 and tested positive for COVID-19 after three days. She died due to “Fatal Arrhythmia, Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome, High Risk Pneumonia probably secondary to COVID-19.”
The latest 14 fatalities due to the highly contagious respiratory illness have boosted the country’s tally for COVID-19 deaths to 68 as of Saturday afternoon.
Also on Saturday, the Philippines’ health department documented 272 new cases of COVID-19 that brought the total number of people afflicted with the disease to 1,075.
COVID-19 is a respiratory illness caused by the novel coronavirus or SARS-CoV-2, which outbreak started in China’s Wuhan City in Hubei province in late 2019.
For most people, the virus causes mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough that clear up in two to three weeks. For some, especially older adults and people with existing health problems, it can cause more severe illness, including pneumonia, and death.
The World Health Organization has declared COVID-19 a pandemic. Worldwide, the virus already infected more than 596, 835 people and killed more than 27,350 as of March 28.
