Albay health execs on intensive contact tracing after 2 confirmed COVID-19 cases

LEGAZPI CITY –– Health officials in Albay province are now on intensive contact tracing of residents who may have interacted with two patients who tested positive of coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

The Department of Health in Bicol on Friday night confirmed that two male patients branded as PH765, a 50-year-old, and PH766, a 53-year-old, tested positive for COVID-19.

Antonio Ludovice, chief of provincial health office, said the American citizen, who was found in an apartment in Legazpi City, consulted at Bicol Regional Training and Teaching Hospital on March 5, while the other, a resident of Bacacay town with travel history in an area with confirmed COVID-19 case, sought medical attention on March 9.

“They both had mild symptoms and were advised to go on home quarantine,” Ludovice said.

He said health authorities were still checking if their families had flu-like symptoms.

“We are still discussing our plan because the American citizen is not cooperative and we do not know if he has a family here,” he added.
