MANILA, Philippines — Interior Secretary Eduardo Año said Friday that he will still place himself under self-quarantine even after ACT-CIS Rep. Eric Yap, who initially tested positive for coronavirus disease, turned out to be negative for COVID-19.

Año said he was also exposed to Armed Forces of the Philippines chief of staff Gen. Felimon Santos Jr., who earlier revealed that he contracted the coronavirus disease.

“Yes, I will continue because Gen. Felimon Santos turned out positive and I had exposure with him on at least three occasions,” Año said in a text message.

Año said he had his last meeting with Santos during an event at the Villamor Airbase in Pasay where they welcomed the arrival of donations of personal protective equipment.

The Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) in Muntinlupa City apologized to Yap for the erroneous result, saying the lawmaker tested positive due to an encoding error.

Año was earlier named by President Rodrigo Duterte as vice chair of the National Action Plan against the COVID-19.
