QC imposes liquor ban until end of Luzon-wide quarantine

MANILA, Philippines — Quezon City imposed a liquor ban for the duration of the enhanced community quarantine due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) crisis.

The liquor ban is pursuant to the city’s Executive Order No. 24, series of 2020. It prohibits the sale and purchase of alcoholic beverages and the consumption of the same in public places.

“LIQUOR BAN SA BUONG QC simula 26 Marso 2020 hanggang matapos ang Enhanced Community Quarantine Period,” a post from the Quezon City government’s Facebook page late Thursday read.

“Bawal nang magbenta at bumili ng alak gayundin ang mag-inuman sa mga pampublikong lugar. Ang sinumang lalabag ay huhulihin at parurusahan nang naaayon sa batas,” the city’s online message added.

(The sale and purchase of liquor, as well as its consumption in public places is prohibited. Violators will be penalized in accordance with the law).

Quezon City has so far recorded 97 COVID-19 cases.

Nationwide, COVID-19 cases have soared to over 700 with the death toll climbing to 45.

Meanwhile, 28 patients have already recovered from the disease.
