Magnitude 6.0 earthquake strikes Sarangani

MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 6.0 earthquake struck Sarangani Thursday night, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

The quake struck at 11:38 p.m. at 22 kilometers southeast of Maasim town.

The tremor was of tectonic origin and had a 41-kilometer depth of focus.

Phivolcs said that the temblor was felt in other areas at various intensities:

Intensity V – General Santos City

Intensity IV – Koronadal City

Instrumental Intensities:

Intensity VI – General Santos City

Intensity V – Tupi, South Cotabato; Malungon, Alabel & Kiamba, Sarangani

Intensity IV – Koronadal City

Intensity I – Gingoog City, Misamis Oriental

Residents in the area were advised to brace for further aftershock and damage, Phivolcs added.
