MANILA, Philippines — Vice President Leni Robredo on Thursday opened a free dormitory in Cubao, Quezon City for medical practitioners at the forefront of the country’s battle against the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
The dorm will serve as temporary shelter for the frontliners amid the month-long Luzon wide lockdown due to the COVID-19 crisis.
The initiative was made by the Office of the Vice President with its Angat Buhay partners.
“Sa pagsisimula ng inisiyatibong ito, umaasa kami na makapagbigay ng kahit kaunting ginhawa para sa ating mga magigiting na frontliners na walang sawa sa paglilingkod sa ating mga kababayan,” Robredo said.
Due to limited space, the dormitory will be on a first-come, first-served basis.

President Rodrigo Duterte placed the entire Luzon under a month-long lockdown on March 21, forcing about half of the country’s population to observe home quarantine. His order came just two days after a botched attempt to restrict the movement of people living and working in Metro Manila.
To date, there are 636 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country, 38 of whom have died while 26 recovered.
