PPA won’t charge additional fees during Luzon-wide quarantine

MANILA, Philippines — There are no additional fees for port charges for the duration of the Luzon-wide enhanced community quarantine, the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) said Wednesday.

PPA General Manager Jay Daniel Santiago issued a memorandum banning additional charges for port fees, including hazard fees in delivery of port services.

The memorandum was posted after reports of an association in Lucena, Quezon used the quarantine declaration to charge an additional pilot health hazard fee of P60,000 per trip.

But the Santiago said the PPA did not allow any “increase and additional port fees, cargo handling, pilotage terminal and miscellaneous fees in its official port tariff.”

On March 17, the entire Luzon was placed under enhanced community quarantine to restrict movement of people to contain the coronavirus disease.

Despite travel bans imposed, the government allowed movement of cargoes and basic goods during the quarantine period.
