MANILA, Philippines – Antipolo City recorded its second death due to COVID-19 on Wednesday.
According to the official Facebook page of Antipolo, the second patient died in Barangay Dalig — the same place where the city’s first COVID-19-related death was recorded.
The first death happened last March 21, but the patient’s COVID-19 test results only came out on Wednesday.
As of this writing, nine COVID-19 cases have been recorded in the city, with one patient in Barangay Dela Paz labeled unstable. Other patients are either under quarantine or just experiencing mild symptoms.
All in all, there are three cases each in Barangay Mambugan and Barangay Dalig and one each in Barangays Mayamot, Dela Paz, and San Isidro.
There are 152 persons under home quarantine and 42 persons under investigation who are still awaiting COVID-19 test results.
Earlier, former Antipolo Mayor Casimiro “Jun” Ynares III confirmed that her mother, Rizal Gov. Rebecca “Nini” Ynares, had tested positive for COVID-19. Among the older Ynares’ direct contacts were incumbent Antipolo Mayor Andeng Ynares.

As of Wednesday, Luzon remained under an enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) due to the rising number of COVID-19 cases.
According to health officials, there are already 636 COVID-19 patients, of whom 38 of have died and 26 have recovered.
Around the world, over 416,000 COVID-19 cases have been recorded, of whom 18,507 have died and 101,090 have recovered.

COVID-19 is a respiratory disease caused by the novel coronavirus that first emerged in Wuhan City in Hubei province in China in late 2019.
The International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses named the novel coronavirus as SARS-CoV-2.
The coronavirus is a family of viruses with surfaces having a crown-like appearance. The viruses are named for the spikes on their surfaces.
