BARANGAY SUMMIT

BARANGAY captains in Central Visayas will hold its first Regional Barangay Summit this August.

The three day summit aims to help local barangay chiefs to enhance their knowledge on governance and preparation for a budget in their respective barangays.

The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) 7 will provide speakers for the activity.

Michael Ralota,Cebu City Chapter and Cebu City Association of Barangay Council (ABC) president, said the summit also aimed to raise funds for its regional chapter.

“First P500 will go to the regional office. Second P500 will be for the host liga and the third P500 adto sa liga nga member ang usa ka participant,” Ralota said.

The summit fee will cost each participant P15,000 pesos. These include hotel accommodation at Waterfront Cebu Hotel and summit kits and others. /Correspondent Carmel Loise Matus

INDICTED

THE Office of the Visayas Ombudsman has indicted a former  head of the Cebu City Social Welfare Department on graft and corruption charges for allegedly allowing 247 canned sardines to spoil.

Nida Sistona was indicted for violating the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act. Bail was recommended at P30,000.

The anti-graft office earlier held  Sistona administratively guilty for gross neglect of duty.

She was removed from office and prohibited from receiving benefits.

The  Ombudsman  held  Sistona  responsible for failing to deliver the relief goods intended for fire victims in 2004, which was worth P28,901.60.

The Ombudsman said that Sistona did nothing despite knowing about the rotting canned sardines./Reporter Ador Vincent S. Mayol
