Benguet bans chicken dung

/ 04:15 AM March 23, 2020

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet, Philippines — The Benguet provincial government had temporarily banned the entry of chicken manure, a commonly used fertilizer in vegetable farms here, to prevent the spread of H5N6 avian flu.

Gov. Melchor Diclas on Tuesday banned chicken dung in the province as the flu could be transmitted to humans.

The Department of Agriculture earlier confirmed that quails from Jaen town, Nueva Ecija province, had tested positive for the avian flu.

An average of 400,000 sacks of chicken dung are transported to Benguet’s vegetable farms every month based on the quarantine monitoring of trucks using the Halsema Highway here.
