Pasay hotels to accommodate OFWs during quarantine period

MANILA, Philippines — Hotels and other establishments in Pasay will accommodate Filipino migrant workers who will leave or enter the Philippines.

In a statement on Saturday, Pasay City Mayor Emi-Calixto Rubiano said hotels, motels and hostels in the city will only be open for Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) after having a meeting with the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration.

Rubiano underscored that these hotels will follow health protocols such as social distancing to curb the threat of coronavirus disease.

In the same statement, OWWA Deputy Administrator Faustino Sabarez III said about 100 sea-based workers who are arriving this afternoon need to take shelter while the quarantine period is in effect.

OWWA will also pay the fees for food and hotel accommodations of the OFWs, the Public Information Office of Pasay said in another statement.

The Department of Health said two patients who tested positive for the coronavirus disease are residents of Pasay.

To date, the Philippine health department said 262 people have been diagnosed with the respiratory disease caused by COVID-19.

Of the number, the infectious disease already claimed the lives of 19 Filipinos, while 13 patients recovered from the disease.
