Person being watched for COVID-19 in Catanduanes dies of heart attack

LEGAZPI CITY –– The Municipal Health Office of Virac in Catanduanes has urged people, who had close contact with the person under monitoring who died on Wednesday night, to undergo “strict self-quarantine.”

Municipal health officer Elva Joson said in a radio interview that the 64-year-old man rode the Our Lady of Salvation bus (seat no. 30) from Pasay City and arrived in Virac town via Calixta at 8 a.m. trip last March 14.

A bulletin of the Virac government said the cause of death was uncontrolled hypertension, chronic and cardiovascular disease.

Joson said the victim, who was on self-quarantine since March 14, was not tested for coronavirus disease (COVID-19) due to lack of a testing kit.

She said anyone who interacted with the victim and who rode in the same bus and vessel must not resist and should undergo a 14-day strict self-quarantine.

“If you have symptoms, immediately report it to the barangay health workers and midwife, we should be one step ahead. We do not need testing because we do not have available (testing kits), we need a precautionary measure,” she added.
