Albay to enforce lockdown to fight COVID-19

LEGAZPI CITY – All borders of Albay would be closed and entry of people from other provinces would be prohibited as the province would start to enforce a lockdown starting midnight to prevent the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) in the province.

Albay Gov. Al Francis Bichara, said this measure, if successful, would cut short by 15 days the implementation of the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) by the national government.

He said the order includes the prohibition of entry by land, air and sea.

According to him, there were at least nine borders subject for closure in Albay.

Exempted from the ban were those transporting basic and essential goods such as food, medicines, water, agricultural products, power and telecommunication equipment and supplies.

Bichara said delivery vehicles shall undergo inspection and sanitation procedures and submit transport and shipment documents to the person manning the border checkpoint.

Persons and transport vehicles who were allowed entry could stay for a limited time and return to their point of origin within 12 hours.

The order was signed in collaboration with the province’s 15 town and three city mayors.
