LEGAZPI CITY –– The provincial government of Sorsogon will give away a hundred tons of herring fish (“tamban”) to poor families affected by the enhanced community quarantine amid the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) threat.

The government would rent jeepneys to distribute these goods, Salvador Mendoza, the province’s information officer said.

“We will rent jeepneys on a rotation basis to at least help them because their primary source of income was affected by the shutdown of mass transportation,” Mendoza said.

The fish from Bulan Fish Port Complex would be given to families in need through the village officials.

Mendoza said they would also rent UV express vans as service vehicles to health workers in hospitals under the supervision of the province.

In an executive order, Governor Francis “Chiz” Escudero also authorized jeepneys and tricycles to move in a point-to-point scheme to serve passengers buying essential goods and services.

Village officials were also tasked to designate pick-up points in their areas./lzb
