MANILA, Philippines – The Office of the Vice President (OVP) distributed personal protective equipment (PPE) to three Manila-based hospitals, to help protect healthcare workers attending to coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients.

Vice President Leni Robredo’s staff brought the PPE sets to the San Lazaro Hospital in Sta. Cruz, Manila, Philippine General Hospital and University of the Philippines-National Institutes of Health Monday night.

“Through the help of Transportify and Ninjavan, OVP staff delivered the PPE sets to San Lazaro Hospital in Sta. Cruz, Manila, to Philippine General Hospital in Ermita, Manila; and to University of the Philippines-National Institutes of Health, also in Ermita, Manila,” Robredo’s office said.

According to Robredo’s office, a total of P5.995 million of its funds have been allocated to procure PPE sets that can be used by at least 1,000 health workers for 15 days.

Another initiative from Angat Buhay partner foundation Kaya Natin has also raised P8.9 million to provide PPE kits for an additional 2,073 frontline workers, which will also be good for 15 days, and 5,659 food packages for them and their families.

While only San Lazaro Hospital has confirmed COVID-19 cases, the other facilities are also attending to patientswho may have been exposed to the virus.

On Monday night, President Rodrigo Duterte has expanded the community quarantine, now covering the entirety of Luzon, as positive COVID-19 patients have risen to 142, with 12 confirmed deaths.

168,000 individuals worldwide have tested positive for COVID-19, while over 6,500 have so fr perished.
