ILOILO CITY, Iloilo, Philippines — Jaro Archbishop Jose Romeo Lazo has directed the indefinite suspension of Masses, public celebrations and congregational gatherings starting March 18 as part of measures against the spread of COVID-19.

“The Archbishop dispenses the faithful from their Sunday obligation to participate in the Holy Eucharist, but they are still encouraged to make the day holy by praying together as a family and by doing acts of charity,” according to an advisory released by the archdiocesan commission on social communications.

The archdiocese covers the provinces of Iloilo and Guimaras and has 92 parishes.
