BAGUIO CITY – Two barangays in Manabo, Abra were placed under community quarantine after Abra Gov. Maria Jocelyn Bernos confirmed the first case of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in the province.
Residents of Barangay Catacdegan Nuevo and Catacdegan Viejo were not allowed to leave their homes to prevent the spread of the virus.
The province’s lone COVID-19 patient, a 39-year-old male seafarer who returned from the United Arab Emirates, is a resident of Catacdegan Nuevo.
He is also the first confirmed COVID-19 patient in the Cordillera region.
The local government of Abra said it would provide the basic needs of the residents while the quarantine is in effect.
As of Monday morning, nine individuals were listed as patients under investigation or PUI while 235 others were considered as persons under monitoring or PUM in the province.
