Faces of the News: Health care workers

Thousands of health workers are now risking their lives in an effort to contain the spread of the coronavirus disease. In fact, some of them have already fallen ill while looking after the well-being of their patients.

On social media, these health personnel have been hailed for the dedication they’ve shown in the line of duty — recognition that President Rodrigo Duterte could’ve given at a critical time such as this.

They’ve been at the forefront of the fight against COVID-19 and have forged tirelessly on despite the meager pay, the long hours and the constant risk they face because of the lack of protective gear.

Already, several health workers, including 43 in Dumaguete, have had to put themselves in self-quarantine after being exposed to the virus.

As Sen. Risa Hontiveros has noted, in a crisis like this, our health workers are “the real heroes,” and the country should be grateful for their selfless service.
