MANILA, Philippines — There are 34 new cases of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in the country, bringing the total to 98, the Department of Health (DOH) announced Saturday.
“The details of these new cases are currently being validated by our teams and will be provided to the public as soon as the information is available and verified by the department,” DOH Asec. Maria Rosario Vergeire said in a press briefing.
“In addition, we are also verifying reports of additional cases.”
The DOH earlier announced that there have been eight recorded deaths in the country because of COVID-19, a disease that first broke out in the city of Wuhan, in China’s Hubei province.
The soaring number of cases later prompted President Rodrigo Duterte to place Metro Manila under “community quarantine.”
