MANILA, Philippines — Two patients who have tested positive for the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) have died, the Department of Health (DOH) announced Saturday.
This brings the total number of mortalities due to COVID-19 to eight.
“DOH is currently gathering further details on the recent deaths and will provide information as soon as its available,” the department said.
Hours before, the DOH announced that the 54-year-old man, who was the first COVID-19 patient in Mindanao, had succumbed to the disease.
As of Saturday, the country’s number of COVID-19 soared to 64.
Because of the growing number of COVID-19 cases, the alert system was raised to Code Red, sub-level 2, prompting President Rodrigo Duterte to place the entire Metro Manila under “community quarantine.”
