SAN PEDRO CITY –– Catholic masses and all church activities across the Diocese of San Pablo in Laguna province were suspended Saturday to discourage mass congregations amid the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) spread.

Churches, including the St. Paul the First Hermit or the San Pablo Cathedral, however, shall remain open, said cathedral rector Monsignor Jerry Bitoon.

San Pablo bishop Ben Famadico ordered the suspension of church activities through a circular and shall take effect with the anticipated masses on Saturday.

In an earlier circular, Famadico announced the cancelation of Visita Iglesia, processions, and all activities lined up for the Lenten week./lzb
