MANILA, Philippines — The Rockwell Land Corporation on Thursday confirmed that two of its residents tested positive for the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
In a statement, Rockwell said that the positive cases were from Joya North Tower, Rockwell Center in Makati.
One of the patients is now under the care of a hospital, the upscale property developer said.
“The two other members of the family are now on self-quarantine,” Rockwell Land added.
The Philippines’ cases of COVID-19 spiked to 49 on Wednesday.
That same day, the Department of Health (DOH) reported the first Filipino to die of the virus.
“As our priority is the community’s health and well-being, we have implemented measures meant to help prevent risks of inadvertent infection, including the closure of some public areas,” Rockwell Land said.
“This will allow us to completely disinfect the areas and reduce close contact scenarios between residents and guests. All other common areas such as lobbies, elevators and parking areas will continue to undergo daily, periodic sanitation.”
The COVID-19 was caused by a novel coronavirus that first broke out in Wuhan City in the province of Hubei in China.
That novel coronavirus was later named SARS-CoV-2 by the International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses.
This virus causes mild symptoms such as fever and cough for most people. It may also lead to severe illnesses such as pneumonia to others, especially to older adults and to people who have pre-existing health problems.
Coronavirus is a family of viruses, which surfaces have a crown-like appearance. Such viruses are named for their spikes on their surfaces.
