Self-quarantine for Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte, staffer under COVID-19 monitoring

MANILA, Philippines — Davao City Mayor and presidential daughter Sara Duterte-Carpio will undergo self-quarantine after a member of her household staff was listed among patients under monitoring for coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

“Mayor Sara Duterte shall undergo a voluntary monitored home quarantine and has signed up as a Person Under Monitoring under the Davao City Health Office,” Duterte-Carpio’s office said in a statement Thursday.

“One of Mayor Duterte’s employees at their residence was unwell last night and is now also listed as a Person Under Monitoring,” the statement added.

The Mayor’s Office also noted that Duterte-Carpio was in a lunch meeting with Committee on Environment Senator Sherwin Gatchalian, who is now under self-quarantine after interacting with a COVID-19 positive Senate visitor.

The presidential daughter, however, is not experiencing flu-like symptoms, her office said.

“She is now confined in an isolated bedroom at her residence and will continue to work through emails, messaging, and video telecon.”

Other ranking government officials have also gone on self-quarantine due to exposure to persons who tested positive for COVID-19.

Among those who will undergo self-quarantine are Senator Nancy Binay, Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez, Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade, Executive Secretary, and Manila Mayor Isko Moreno.

To date, the Philippines has 49 confirmed cases of COVID-19, a respiratory disease caused by the novel coronavirus that first emerged in
Wuhan, China late last year.
