Malacañang will be closed Thursday for disinfection – PSG chief

MANILA, Philippines — Malacañang will be closed on Thursday for disinfection as a precautionary measure against the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

The Presidential Security Group (PSG) commander, Col. Jesus Durante, confirmed this in a phone interview with INQUIRER.net.

“The disinfection will only last for a while, but it will be done by sectors,” he said, speaking partly in Filipino. “So maybe it would last a whole day because they can’t do all of it at the same time.”

The disinfection of the “main Palace” will be regularly implemented to protect the seat of the government from the COVID-19 threat, Durante explained.

The directive came after Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez and Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade separately announced that they would undergo self-quarantine after interacting with coronavirus-positive individuals.
