Suspect in killing of former Ozamiz vice mayor nabbed

PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur, Philippines — The suspect in the killing of the former vice mayor of Ozamiz City in 2016 was arrested by police in Zamboanga Sibugay on Sunday.

According to a report of the Mabuhay Municipal Police Station, Jimmy Chan Jr., 43, fell into the hands of joint operatives of the local police and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in Barangay Malinao of Mabuhay town at around 3:50 p.m.

Chan was arrested on the strength of a warrant issued by the Ozamiz City Regional Trial Court Branch 15 for murder.

Chan is the prime suspect in the killing in November 2016 of former Ozamiz Vice Mayor Roland Romero.

But it is not yet known if the arrest warrant served on him last Sunday was that for the case as he was also accused in various other murder cases, apart from being an alleged drug personality.

The suspect is a resident of Barangay Carmen in Ozamiz City.

Chan is now detained at the Mabuhay police detention cell while awaiting transfer to Ozamiz City.
