LEGAZPI CITY — The Department of Health (DOH) in Bicol on Monday (March 9) turned over six of 60 ambulances to be distributed to selected towns and cities in the region.
Dr. Ernie Vera, DOH Bicol chief, said the province of Albay initially got three ambulances while two were given to Camarines Norte and one for Camarines Sur.
Last week, Albay’s island town of Rapu-rapu also received a sea ambulance from the DOH.
The 60 ambulances, worth P138 million (P2.3 million per unit), was financed under the DOH Health Facility Enhancement Program (HFEP).
The program is one of the banner projects of the agency aimed at upgrading the health facilities of local government units and provide training to health professionals to improve the access of people to quality health care.
The remaining 54 units would be distributed by the end of June this year.
