Gary David logged his fourth straight 30-point game. It could have gone for naught had it not been for the equally impressive game of rookie Marcio Lassiter.
David and Lassiter both chalked up 30-point games to lead the Powerade Tigers to a series-tying 121-113 victory over the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters in Game 2 of their best-of-seven semifinal series of the 37th PBA Philippine Cup at the Araneta Coliseum yesterday.
David fired 30 points in the series-opener last Wednesday but could not celebrate as the Tigers got waylaid in Game 1, 97-114.
Going nine-for-21 from the field, David topped the Tigers again in Game 2 by firing a game-high 32 markers. David has now scored a combined 141 points in the team’s last four games.
The biggest story, however, was the bounce-back game of Lassiter.
Held to just to a measly two points in their Game 1 loss, Lassiter exploded on offense by scattering 30 points on 10-for-21 shooting from the field.
“I just told him that some people are asking why he struggles in the bigger stage. Good thing he responded with a resounding performance,” Powerade coach Bo Perasol said of Lassiter, who also collected seven rebounds.
“This kind of game from Lassiter is what we need. We need to get contribution from our support group.”
