MANILA, Philippines — Greenhills Center announced Friday that it has taken precautionary measures in a bid to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) among mallgoers and tenants, following the confirmation of two new cases in the country.

In a statement, the management of the shopping mall said it is already coordinating with the Department of Health (DOH) and the San Juan City government to ensure that their patrons are protected from the deadly disease.

“In light of the Department of Health’s confirmation of two new cases of COVID-19, Greenhills Mall is enacting precautionary measures to ensure the safety of our shoppers, tenants and employees. The mall management is coordinating and cooperating with the DOH and the City Government of San Juan,” the statement read.

“Rest assured that the health and security of our shoppers, tenants, employees, and the public is our top priority,” the mall management added.

The DOH earlier announced that two Filipinos had contracted COVID-19, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the country to five. The first new case is a 48-year-old Filipino who traveled from Japan, and the second, a 62-year-old Filipino who regularly visits a prayer hall in Barangay Greenhills, San Juan City.

The two new patients are currently staying at the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) in Muntinlupa City.

According to the DOH, the patient from San Juan was reported to have experienced cough and severe pneumonia on before he was brought to a hospital in the city on February 25.

Earlier, San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora ordered the sanitation and temporary closure of a prayer room frequented by the patient in Barangay Greenhills.
