A senior citizen was killed when he was struck by a Philippine National Railways (PNR) train in Sampaloc, Manila, on Wednesday evening.

The Manila Police District (MPD) Station 4 identified the victim as 65-year-old Edilberto dela Rosa. According to a witness, the incident happened while Dela Rosa was waiting to cross the railroad tracks near the corner of Algeciras and Fajardo Streets around 9 p.m. Wednesday.

After the last car of a northbound train (Tutuban-bound) passed, he began to walk across the tracks but failed to see a train approaching from the opposite direction.

The southbound train (Alabang-bound) struck the senior citizen and dragged his body for several meters. Responders declared Dela Rosa dead on the spot. An incident response team from the PNR told the victim’s family to proceed to the agency’s main office in Tutuban for help. Investigation of the incident has been turned over to the Manila Police District’s Traffic Enforcement Unit.
