Number of patients monitored for COVID-19 in hospitals soars to 39

MANILA, Philippines — Patients admitted in hospitals who are being monitored for the COVID-19 increased to 39 from 25, records from the Department of Health (DOH) showed Wednesday.

Based on DOH tracker for patients under investigation (PUIs), most of the patients isolated in hospitals and health centers are from Metro Manila.

In a press conference at the DOH office, Health Assistant Secretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said the number of PUIs added passengers that came from South Korea who were later admitted to health facilities.

The health department said officials are still awaiting results of 32 specimens submitted at the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine in Muntinlupa City, the only facility in the country that verifies cases of COVID-19.

The DOH said there were 579 PUIs nationwide that tested negative for the fatal coronavirus while 620 PUIs were already discharged from their respective hospitals and health facilities.

Metro Manila – 29 admitted, 193 discharged, 2 confirmed cases

Calabarzon – 0 admitted, 80 discharged

Central Luzon – 2 admitted, 74 discharged

Central Visayas – 0 admitted, 61 discharged, 1 confirmed case

Western Visayas – 1 admitted, 40 discharged

Cagayan Valley – 1 admitted, 37 discharged

Cordillera Administrative Region – 1 admitted, 28 discharged

Davao Region – 0 admitted, 24 discharged

Northern Mindanao – 1 admitted, 18 discharged

Eastern Visayas – 0 admitted, 18 discharged

Mimaropa – 0 admitted, 15 discharged

Ilocos Region – 1 admitted, 12 discharged

Bicol Region – 2 admitted, 13 discharged

Soccsksargen – 1 admitted, 3 discharged

Caraga – 0 admitted, 3 discharged

BARMM – 0 admitted, 1 discharged
