QC village execs trained to handle COVID-19 cases

MANILA, Philippines — To reduce the risk of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) spreading in the country’s largest city, the Quezon City local government has stepped up its training of health workers across its 142 barangays.

The Quezon City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office and Quezon City Health Department said over the weekend that they had trained over 100 members of Barangay Health Emergency Response Teams in 20 villages so far. The first training session was held at Barangay Batasan Hills, with over 30 participants, followed by another at the Regional Evacuation Center in Barangay Fairview.

The training was centered on “handling biosecurity risks in communities” and “minimizing risks in handling patients afflicted with or suspected to be carriers of contagious diseases” like COVID-19.

Officers from the Quezon City Epidemiology and Disease Surveillance Section also administered hands-on training on wearing personal protective equipment before handling patients under investigation.
