SC defers action on case vs ABS-CBN
MANILA, Philippines — The Supreme Court has deferred deliberations on the cases filed by the Office of the Solicitor-General (OSG) against television network ABS-CBN.
“The case will be taken up again by the en banc on March 10, 2020,” Supreme Court Information chief and spokesperson Brian Keith Hosaka told reporters.
The OSG through Solicitor General Jose Calida filed on February 10 a quo warranto petition vs the media giant to nullify its existing franchise. On February 18, it submitted a motion to issue a gag order to prohibit the parties and their representatives from discussing the case in public.
ABS-CBN has already submitted its comments to the Calida’s pleadings, answering point by point the State lawyer’s allegations.
Hosaka said deliberation was deferred “to give the Justices time to go over the pleadings submitted by the parties, including the comments recently filed by the respondents.”
