LEGAZPI CITY –– A police crackdown on illegal gambling in the Bicol region led to the arrest of 236 persons and the confiscation of at least P64,000 worth of gambling bets during the first two months of this year.
Brigadier General Anthony Alcañeses, director of the Bicol police, said in an interview, that the arrested persons were engaged in various illegal gambling activities such as “jueteng,” the leading illegal numbers game in Bicol, Small Town Lottery bookies, cockfighting, and mahjong, among others.
He said the campaign against illegal gambling should be strictly implemented and warned all police provincial directors and town and city police chiefs of the standing “one strike and no-take policy.”
