PNP chief: No to reported Duterte ouster plot
MANILA, Philippines — Any plot to oust President Rodrigo Duterte will not be supported by the Philippine National Police, PNP chief Gen. Archie Gamboa assured on Monday.
“The PNP and the AFP, we assure the public that there’s no such thing that will be supported by the PNP nor the AFP,” Gamboa said, amid rumors of a plot to unseat the Chief Executive.
The high trust ratings that President Duterte enjoys based on recent surveys should also discourage those who want to oust him, he added.
Gamboa said that the PNP will raise a special alert status on February 25, which is the anniversary of the Edsa People Power Revolution, saying that “people will take advantage” of the event.
“Since then, ganoon naman palagi eh, kapag malapit na mag-Edsa, ‘oh may mag-oust.’ May nangyari ba?” Gamboa said.
(It’s been like that ever since. When the Edsa Revolution anniversary will comes up, there would be ouster calls. But did anything happen?)
