Albay bans hog meat, products from ASF positive areas

LEGAZPI CITY – Albay province has banned the entry of pork, live pigs, and processed food after the Department of Agriculture (DA) in Bicol confirmed that the results of tests conducted on pigs that died in Bombon town in neighboring Camarines Sur province were positive for African Swine Fever (ASF).

Pancho Mella, officer-in-charge of the Provincial Veterinary Services, said the lockdown includes areas with confirmed ASF cases.

“We are still consulting the regional quarantine (of DA) if we will implement a ban in the whole Camarines Sur province or just Bombon town,” Mella said.

Mella said they would intensify the operation of strategic checkpoints with authorities in different towns./lzb
