Magnitude 5.4 earthquake shakes Davao Occidental

MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 5.4 earthquake struck Davao Occidental on Thursday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

The quake struck at 5:54 p.m. at 35 kilometers southeast of Jose Abad Santos town.

Phivolcs said that the tremor was of tectonic origin, and had a 190-kilometer depth of focus.

The seismology department added that the earthquake was also felt in other areas, recorded in various intensities:

While no further damage was expected, Phivolcs warned that aftershocks may occur.
