LUCENA CITY –– Exiled communist top rebel leader Jose Maria “Joma” Sison clarified that his praises to President Duterte’s declaration to scrap all military treaties between the Philippines and the United States was only meant as a “satire.”

In a statement sent to the Inquirer on Wednesday, Sison said that in an earlier news report, there was a misrepresentation to his statement that resulted in him portraying Duterte as the “greatest President.”

“They quote but miss the satirical and challenging intent of the following sentence: ‘If Duterte would adopt all the necessary measures to assert and exercise national sovereignty against both US and Chinese imperialism, then he would deserve commendation as the president fundamentally different from and superior to all his predecessors in terms of patriotism.'”

Sison claimed that the news report should have included this: “The problem is that the line of least resistance for him (Duterte) is to remain a puppet of imperialism and tyrant to his own people.”

Sison admitted that it was difficult to believe that President Duterte would scrap all military treaties with the US. He once tagged Duterte as “notorious for flip-flopping.”
