MANILA, Philippines–The ad interim appointment of General Felimon Santos Jr., chief of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), has been recommended for confirmation by a panel of the powerful Commission on Appointments (CA).
No members of the CA’s committee on national defense objected when Senator Joel Villanueva moved to recommend Santos’ appointment during Wednesday’s hearing.
The panel’s recommendation will then be transmitted to the CA plenary for either rejection or approval.
Before his appointment as AFP chief in January this year, Santos served as commander of the 7th Infantry Division before becoming the 11th commander of the Eastern Mindanao Command.
Santos also once served as the head of the 11th Intelligence Service Unit based in Davao City and became the Army’s Group Commander of Intelligence Service Group.
Aside from the AFP chief of staff, the panel also recommended the ad interim appointment of Commodore Luzviminda Camacho.
Camacho’s confirmation will also be sent for CA plenary action.
