Toddler choking on candy saved by 9-year-old boy
A 9-year-old boy is being hailed a hero after he saved his younger cousin from choking on a piece of candy.
Timothy Prather’s cousin, Conner, started choking while they were with their grandparents at a rodeo in Tennessee, USA, as per CBS-affiliate WREG on Jan. 29. Prather recalled that his cousin was crying and stomping his feet while holding his throat at the time.
“Our [grandmother] had him upside down and our [grandfather] was patting his back, that’s how I knew something was wrong,” Prather said in the report.
He then jumped into action to perform the Heimlich maneuver on little Conner. Prather dropped to his knees as he hugged Connor from the back and began pushing on his stomach.
Thanks to his quick actions, the candy was eventually dislodged from his younger cousin’s throat. According to the report, Prather knew how to do the procedure, thanks to a poster about it placed in his school and some YouTube videos he had seen.
