MANILA, Philippines — The Engineering conglomerate D.M. Consunji, Inc. (DMCI) on Tuesday said the Feb. 1 fire that gutted a plastic plant of San Miguel Yamamura Packaging Corp. in Pandacan, Manila did not start from the company’s construction yard.
“The massive fire that occurred last Saturday in Pandacan, Manila did not originate from the construction yard of D.M. Consunji, Inc.,” the firm said in a statement.
DMCI also said videos circulating online showed that the fire originated outside the construction yard.
Quoting the Bureau of Fire Protection, DMCI said their company’s construction yard caught fire 30 minutes after the blaze from the plastic plant began.
The company also said they would coordinate with authorities on any possible investigation to identify the real cause of the massive fire.
It can be recalled that the blaze, which was put out after more than four hours, left an estimated P15 million worth of damage. It also caused a 300-meter portion of the Skyway Stage 3 elevated expressway.
