MANILA, Philippines — Most Filipinos are ready to buy food condiments in recyclable containers than in sachets, a Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey commissioned by the Global Alliance for Incinerator Alternatives (GAIA) has shown.
Based on the SWS poll, 68 percent of adult Filipinos are willing to buy soy sauce, oil, vinegar, sauces, spices, and other food flavorings in recyclable or refillable containers.
The SWS survey also indicated that 41 percent of Filipinos want companies to use or find alternative materials to plastic while 71 percent would like regulation on the use or less use of plastic sando bags nationwide.
Further, Filipinos surveyed want regulation on the use of styrofoam or polystyrene food containers (56 percent); plastic ”labo” bags (54 percent); plastic straws and stirrers (52 percent); and sachets (50 percent).
The SWS survey, which was conducted from September 27 to 30, 2019, nationwide, used interviews of 1,800 people, aged 18 years old and above, and has a ±2.3 percent margin of error.
Previously, GAIA also commissioned an SWS survey, which indicated that majority of Filipinos want a ban on single-use plastics across the country.
