MANILA, Philippines — Starting Feb. 1, motorists who wish to use the Skyway Alabang-Zapote northbound ramp may do so, but only during “rush hours,” specifically from 5 a.m. to 9 a.m.
In a statement, San Miguel Corporation (SMC), parent company of SMC Infrastructure that operates the expressway, said that the adjustment in operating hours was to make way for the Skyway Extension Project.
From 9 a.m. to 5 a.m, meanwhile, the portion of the expressway will be closed to give way to construction works.
The scheme implementation was agreed upon by Skyway, Muntinlupa Traffic Management Bureau and Filinvest Alabang, Inc. (FAI), the SMC said.
In line with this, motorists coming from northbound Alabang-Zapote road were advised to take the Filinvest entry to the South Luzon Expressway as an alternative route.
Earlier, SMC advised motorists going to Alabang in Muntinlupa to take alternate routes to give way to the construction of the southbound lane of the Skyway Extension Project.
The P10-billion project will add two additional lanes going north for a total of five northbound lanes. Three additional lanes going south will also be constructed, for a total of four southbound lanes.
The project is set for completion in December 2020.
The SMC said that initially, motorists can expect slow-moving or heavy traffic, but that may soon change once they make the necessary adjustments.
If traffic volume goes “extremely high,” the SMC said that personnel on the ground can make necessary judgments to suspend construction works.
“We understand that this is an inconvenience for many of our motorists, and we’d like to again ask for your patience and support. We monitor traffic 24/7 and we assure you we will do all we can to make traffic manageable,” SMC President Ramon Ang said.
“However, we all know that we have a big task at hand here, and that is to build a long-term solution to the traffic situation in the south. Your cooperation and continued observance of traffic rules and safety will be a big help towards realizing this goal,” he added.
