Dole: Follow pay rules for Jan. 25 holiday

/ 05:20 AM January 24, 2020

The Department of Labor and Employment (Dole) reminded employers to follow pay rules for Jan. 25, which was declared a special nonworking day in celebration of the Chinese New Year. According to Dole Labor Advisory No. 02, the principle of “no work, no pay” applies, unless a favorable company policy, practice or collective bargaining agreement is in place; employees who report for work on this day are entitled to an additional 30 percent of their daily rate on the first eight hours of work; employees who work in excess of eight hours should be paid an additional 30 percent of their hourly rate on this day; employees who work on this special day that also falls on their rest day are entitled to an additional 50 percent of their daily rate on the first eight hours of work, and an additional 30 percent of their hourly rate if they work beyond eight hours on this day. —Tina Santos
