MANILA, Philippines — The British Council has opened its third round of art mobility grant program in a bid to promote art and cultural exchange between the United Kingdom (UK) and Southeast Asia.
The British Council announced on Wednesday that its “Connections Through Culture” arts mobility grant, which is for those who work in the visual arts, architecture, music, dance, design, fashion, theatre, literature, film, and combined arts, is open until Jan. 31 this year.
“The grant provides a cultural exchange between artists, arts professionals, and arts organizations; nurturing cooperation and long-lasting relationships between the UK and six Southeast Asian countries: Malaysia, Vietnam, Myanmar, Thailand, Indonesia, and the Philippines,” it said in a statement.
Applicants from the six Southeast Asian countries and the UK can apply for the mobility grants with values ranging from £2,500 to £5,000.
They may use the grants for self-directed travels to meet with specialists, peers in the field and potential collaborators in the UK and in Southeast Asia.
Through the program, the British Council said it aims to “break new ground, support creativity, and innovation and connect the most exciting established and emerging counterparts in East Asia to the best of UK creativity.”
Successful applicants will be announced on March 2 for visits from May to July 2020.
The British Council said the first two rounds of program have so far supported over 20 projects.
