6-year-old daughter of ex-fireman saves family from house fire

A six-year-old girl is being hailed a hero after warning her family that their house was on fire, giving them enough time to escape unharmed.

Madalyn Karlbon woke up due to a smoke detector in her home in New Jersey, United States only to find the building engulfed in flames last Sunday, Jan. 19, as per Avenel Fire Department’s Facebook post yesterday, Jan. 20.

The six-year-old immediately jumped into action and alerted her dad and ex-chief firefighter, Jimmy, to the fire.

In a separate post, the department said that Madalyn’s mother and two-year-old brother also made it out of their home, thanks to her and Jimmy’s quick thinking. The flames had claimed most of the family’s belongings.

Following the tragedy, fire authorities had deemed the house inhabitable. The Karlbon family has been temporarily relocated to a hotel “while the necessary procedures are completed.” Authorities did not state the cause of the fire. JB
